Strawberry Picking

Out in the strawberry fields is where I want to be.

Pick, taste and enjoy strawberries straight from the field.

Strawberry Picking

The strawberry fields are open

Strawberry season at Tangaroa

Wander the fields, enjoy the fresh air and see what delicious red berries you can discover.

Take your time and look carefully beneath the leaves. The easiest berries are usually picked first, so a little patience and a sense of adventure make all the difference.

Because we grow naturally, every visit is different. Enjoy the search, forage a little and make a day of it. Bring a picnic, settle under the trees and enjoy the farm at your own pace.

Forage a little. Picnic a lot. Breathe in the fresh country air. Relax.

🌿This Heritage Weekend – 24 to 27 September – come for the experience.

Bring your picnic, cushions, blankets, a good book or your meat and portable braai and make a day of it.

There are plenty of shady areas around the farm, but you’re welcome to bring your own sun umbrella if you’d like. A kiddie’s jungle gym for the little ones to play on and a labyrinth to walk with a view of the beautiful Witwatersberg mountain range for those who need some time out to calm their minds from the busy week left behind.

There will be some strawberries to pick, but please come with the spirit of a country adventure rather than expecting a full basket. The reward is in the searching — and you never know what delicious little red berry might be hiding beneath the leaves!

Come and enjoy the beginning of the season.

Forage a little. Picnic a lot. Breathe in the fresh country air. Relax.

The big strawberry harvest is still on its way — but the blush has begun!

How it works:

Weekend strawberry picking

Tangaroa is open for strawberry picking on Saturdays and Sundays during the season, usually from 08:00 to 16:00. Your entrance fee gives you access to the farm, picnic areas and fields for the day.

Pick at your own pace

When the fields are open and ripe fruit is available, you are welcome to return to the strawberry fields throughout the day. Pick, eat, picnic, relax and head back to the fields whenever you like.

Picking depends on nature
Strawberry availability changes naturally throughout the season. We may occasionally close the picking fields because of poor weather or when there is not enough ripe fruit available.

Taking strawberries home

Want to take some strawberries home? Purchase a bucket, fill it as you pick and take your harvest with you. Take-home strawberries are charged per bucket.

ENTRANCE RATES:

Your day at Tangaroa

Your entrance fee gives you access to the farm and picnic areas for the day.

When fruit is available and the picking fields are open, you are welcome to return to the fields throughout the day and pick and eat strawberries as you go. There is no fixed picking session or time limit.

Take your time, enjoy the farm, have a picnic, head back to the fields later and make a day of it. Any strawberries you would like to take home are charged separately.

Please note: Strawberry picking is seasonal and depends on weather and the availability of ripe fruit. The picnic areas remain available even when the picking fields are closed.

Important before entering the picking fields

The applicable entrance fee is payable before entering the picking fields. The fee applies once you enter the fields, whether or not you choose to pick fruit and regardless of the quantity, size or availability of fruit you find.

Strawberry picking is a natural, seasonal experience and fruit availability can vary throughout the day. Some berries may be hidden beneath the leaves and may take time and patience to find.

Entrance fees are non-refundable once you have entered the picking fields.

If you are unsure whether you would like to enter the picking fields, please ask our team about current picking conditions before paying and entering.

Taking berries home

Want to take some strawberries home?

Pick up a bucket, fill it as you go and take your harvest home with you. Take-home strawberries are charged per bucket.
Because our strawberries are grown naturally, they are ready to enjoy straight from the plant. Water points are available in the fields if you would prefer to give them a quick rinse.

The Tea Garden

Something light, something sweet, something cold

Take a break at the Tea Garden for a light meal, a thick strawberry milkshake or a little something sweet.

Our strawberry cheesecake is always a favourite, and the fresh strawberry milkshake is made with real strawberries for a proper farm treat.

Prefer to picnic? You are very welcome to bring your own picnic, cushions and blankets, find a shady spot and settle in for the day.

Bring a sun umbrella if you like, stretch out, relax and make yourself at home.

You are also very welcome to bring your own picnic. Pack your favourite food, cushions, blankets and anything else that will help you settle in and enjoy the day.

There are plenty of shady spots around the farm, and you are welcome to bring your own sun umbrella too.

We are a working farm

Tangaroa is home to more than strawberries. You’ll also meet dogs, geese, ducks, cats and plenty of other farm life along the way. They are very much part of the character of the farm, so enjoy them, say hello and give them their space.

Please leave your own pets at home. Our animals are not always keen on unexpected visitors.

Children are welcome to enjoy the animals too, but please make sure they do not chase them or throw stones. Please don’t feed the animals bread. If suitable feed is available on the day, our team will let you know.

A little note about the terrain

As we are a working farm, we have our own animals, dogs, a gaggle of geese, a few ducks, an array of wild bird life, some fish in our dam and a few mischievous cats. Please, don’t bring your pets.

A little note about the terrain

Ours don’t like other pet visitors.
Also, all of our animals, especially our feathered friends, are not targets, so please do not let your children throw stones at them – Stones do damage.
Duck food is the order of the day for them, and is available from our restaurant. Please do not feed them bread.

This is a real working farm, so expect uneven ground, grass, mud after rain and the occasional slightly adventurous pathway.
Wheelchairs can access parts of the farm, but some areas may be more difficult after wet weather.
If accessibility is important for your visit, please ask our team about current conditions before heading into the fields.
